TODAY 3/3/12 in the One Year Bible

Mark 12:17 (ESV)
Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” And they marveled at him.
God is not in competition with this world for the things of this world!
"What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight." (Lk 15:5b)
It is apples and oranges!
Actually, it is grapes and gravel!!! They are so far apart they are not even in the same family!
So to get caught up in the things this world values, is to completely miss the heart of God!
So too, to get caught up in the things God values, is to completely miss the lust of this world!
Pursuing God's goals is NOT merely pursuing the same things in a different way!
The difference is in both the means AND the ends!
...pursuing a different prize, differently!
Father, I don't feel like my greatest challenge is to resist the things of this world. For the most part, by Your work of grace in my life, they have completely lost their appeal to me.
I think my greatest challenge is, having ceased pursuing the world's goods, to not fully enough pursue eternal goods! So I am not going after the temporal, but I am not adequately going after the eternal either!
I am going through my days, oriented eternally for sure, but not adequately mirroring the intensity of the world in their pursuits!
