Matthew 4:17 (NASB)
From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
From what time?
From the time John the baptist was put in prison, which eventually ended in his death.
Seems that was the plan.
John had a purpose.
To be the forerunner for the coming of Jesus.
His purpose was complete.
God took him home.
That's the nicer sounding version.
The "how" gets a bit interesting.
He was imprisoned and eventually beheaded on a whim.
Not a very fun way for a man commended as highly as John was by Jesus Himself, to go out!
And why would I think my life won't have hard to it?
Truly, it is only by maintaining an eternal perspective and value system that the plan of God consistently makes sense.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (NASB)
For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Suffering by the will of God, WILL have an amazing payoff in eternity!
To evaluate the plan of God for my life from a temporal value system is crazy making!
But to evaluate it in light of eternity makes perfect sense and produces worship!
Isn't it interesting how we are far more comfortable with our temporal passions and pursuits putting our eternity in jephordy
then we are with God's eternal passions and pursuits putting our seconds on earth in jephordy?
