Romantic Piano Concerto – Kearney
April 9 @ 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm| Free
Kevin Cheng, an undergraduate at UNK studying piano and wildlife biology, will be giving his fourth community piano performance. The concert will be admission free again, thanks to all the generous donors that help him pay the cost of hiring the musicians.
Kevin will be playing three piano concertos, a type of music in which solo piano is accompanied by a symphony orchestra. The orchestra will include string players from Kearney High Select Camerata and professional wind and brass players from all over the state of Nebraska. The concert will feature Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor, op.16; Moszkovsky Piano Concerto in E major, op.59; and Alkan Concerto for solo piano without orchestra. Joining him is Kearney High orchestra conductor Patrick Nebesniak and Kearney Symphony Orchestra conductor Dr. Deborah Freedman. Katie Thorn, an undergraduate at UNK studying pre-nursing, will be accompanying the concerto on a second piano.
Besides classical music, Kevin will also integrate popular tunes into this concert, including the Star Wars main theme and “Amazing Grace,” Kevin’s favorite piece that he plays in every performances. He will also be sharing his personal testimony on the concert program and giving free Bibles to anyone who would like to have a copy after the concert.
Besides playing piano, Kevin is an avid large game hunter who has hunted deer and turkey in almost every corner of Nebraska. He would like to thank all those landowners who gave him opportunities to experience God’s creation at no charge by giving away a European mounted bull elk skull as the door prize at the end of the concert.
