Piano Concerto – Valentine
November 12 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm| Free
Kevin Cheng, a Nebraska Christian graduate, will be presenting a piano concerto, a form of music with a solo piano accompanied by a orchestra. In this concert, the orchestra is replaced by a string quintet. The program includes Mozart Piano Concerto in D minor, the opening music in the movie Amadeus, Hummel Piano Concerto in A minor, and Mendelssohn Piano Concerto in A minor. Mendelssohn Piano Concerto in A minor is also titled as Piano Concerto No.0 because it was published after the composer’s death. Little is known about this piece of music, and it has only been performed a few times in the Europe. Cheng performed the first movement of this piano concerto with the Grand Island Senior High orchestra on October 8, 2017, and it marked the first performance of it in the US. In this series of concerts, Cheng will perform all three movements of Mozart and Mendelssohn piano concerto while performing the first movement with a portion of the last movement of Hummel piano concerto. Also included in the program are Cheng’s favorite piano music Amazing Grace and his version of The Star-Spangled Banner. Cheng’s rearrangement of The Star-Spangled Banner could be seen on the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79wbUlbW3Vw&feature=youtu.be. During the concert Cheng will be sharing his personal testimony and how one can use his or her God-given talent to share the gospel.
