Tips
Write the verse
- on an index card or several index cards
- on spiral-bound index cards
- in your smartphone
- in a section of your planner
Post the verse where you will see it
- at home….by the bathroom mirror, by the kitchen sink, by your workbench
- at work….by your computer screen, clipped to your page marker in your planner, inside your tractor
- at the gym…on the treadmill or other exercise equipment
Take your verses with you for easy review
- Copy the verses onto spiral-bound index cards
- Write verses on index cards and keep in an envelope-style holder
Memorize a phrase at a time
- Break the verse down into logical phrases to make it easier to remember
- Once you have one phrase memorized, add the next one. That way, you're reinforcing what you've already learned while adding something new.
Take advantage of moments throughout the day
- waiting in line
- brushing your teeth
- waiting for an appointment
- during commercials while watching tv
Memorize with your children
- Use motion. Children can toss a beanbag or ball while they are reciting a verse.
- At supper, go around the table and each person can say a word
- If you have tiles on your floor, a child can jump one tile each time he says a word. Some children also like to jump rope or jump on a trampoline saying a word at a time.
- Draw a simple picture that illustrates what the verse is about
- Write the verse on a white board. Erase one word and say the verse, then erase another word and say the verse, until all the words are erased. Children will enjoy writing the verse themselves and choosing which words to erase.
